Bible Verses to Live By This Year {and Every Year!}
As the new year begins, I think most of us feel the pressure to do, be, or make something new. Maybe it’s a new set of goals … or walking forward with victory instead of being stuck in a cycle that repeats the past. Maybe you are looking for something to live by this year. If so, I have a long list and continuing series of good Bible verses to live by this year!
Good Bible Verses to Live By This Year and Every Year!
Something that guides you along the right path giving you hopes to carry on and inspiration to keep you reaching high?
There are many good books available about accomplishing goals, identifying strengths and weaknesses, or improving physical, emotional, or spiritual habits. (I’ll share some of those at the end of this post!) But there is one source that is consistent.
It is timeless and provides a filter through which we determine the good and bad in our every decision. It is a source of Truth … hope … inspiration … and growth. It’s the Bible — the Word of God.
Let’s look at these Bible verses now.
“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” -Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT
“As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.” -Proverbs 27:19
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” -Colossians 3:23-24 NIV
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” -2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV
“Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.” -Psalm 25:4 NIV
“God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.” -Psalms 18:30 NLT
“Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.” -Proverbs 13:30
“For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.” -Deuteronomy 30:16
“My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” -Galatians 2:20 NLT
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” -Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT
“I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord. They are plans for peace and not disaster, plans to give you a future filled with hope.” -Jeremiah 29:11 GW
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” -Romans 8:28 NLT
Choosing to Live a Life of Trust and Surrender to Christ
These Bible verses to live by are only a tiny sampling of so much more awaiting you in the pages of God’s love letter to you. Friends, I’m not one to throw gavels down – my heart lay in mending bridges, finding healing, and bringing peace. But I know that to find the kind of peace – to live the best life you can live – we need to walk with a Guide and on solid ground.
We can believe in God. We can even believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. But we can’t live our best life until we know Jesus enough that it changes us.
We have to know His Word – the scriptures to live by. Finding the treasures tucked away within those pages breathes life into our dead places. They give us hope.
And then? Then it’s time to make declarations! Between us and Jesus, we commit to change — to a new way of living.
When I wrote Surrendered Hearts, it was about so much more than our adoption story. It was about learning to trust God fully and trust that His Word is true — and then find peace and hope in the truth. So, at the beginning of the book, I wrote a manifesto. (a public declaration of policy and aims, especially one issued before an election by a political party or candidate.)
I want to share that manifesto with you today because I think there is no better time to declare a manifesto for our lives than right now! It is a new year with a new decade. A time to make a change for the better!
The Surrendered Heart Manifesto
Use this manifesto as is or use it as a template for writing your personal manifesto including the Bible verses to live by that you know are the ones you need to focus on most.
This manifesto is found at the front of my book, Surrendered Hearts, and is the theme of both my written and spoken messages. I pray it blesses and encourages you to make a change this year and begin the process of living your best life.

Have you read our story of adoption and learning to surrender?
The word surrender has a nasty reputation. We think of it as failure — giving up and giving in. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Surrender takes strength. Moreover, surrendering to God leads to living a full and prosperous life. It’s the message of my book and the prayer of my heart for each of you to embrace a surrendered life.
God walked us through layers of surrender as we followed His call to adopt. Our sweet girl didn’t come home to us by chance. But rather, by a miraculous series of events. I’ve witnessed God use the stories of others to inspire, encourage, equip, and give us hope. I pray our story does the same for you as you explore Foster Care and/or Adoption.
