10 Bible Verses About Worry and Stress

We long for a wholeness that comes from the One who loves us and can do immeasurably more than anything we can do on our own. Here are 10 Bible verses about worry and stress that will give you hope and put your mind at ease. Plus, a war room prayer to combat worry and stress. #bibleverses #worryandstress #worry #stress #prayer #bibleversesaboutworryandstress #hope #livesurrendered #trustGod

The rush of our daily lives and the sheer length of to-do lists that we, because of our digital media world, complete too far into the night, is enough to stir anxiety in our hearts.

Add to that family and friend situations, work environments, political battles, financial obligations, and the brokenness of both others and of our own. Is it any wonder that the percentage of people who need medical intervention for anxiety is growing more quickly than ever before?

Worry and stress are not good for us.

Worry and stress fog our brains, raise our blood pressure, and often are at the root of a multitude of medical and mental health problems.

There are a multitude of secular books on controlling worry and stress. There are also many activities such as yoga and other forms of exercise that are important components to staying healthy and dealing with stress.

But we also need our faith. As I’ve learned from my own experience, we can do all the right things within our own power, but still not find the healing we long for. Our souls long for more. We long for the wholeness that comes from the One who loves us and can do immeasurably more than anything we can do on our own.

It’s why I learned that knowing Bible verses isn’t only good for us. It is crucial to knowing God and thus discovering the fullness of His love and the power in His Word.

Using God’s Word to Combat Worry and Stress

When I study Bible verses about worry and stress, I see distinct concepts that lead us to find the peace our souls want and need such as:

  1. God is incapable of breaking His promises. Therefore, there is no reason to doubt Him.
  2. God loves us more than we can fathom.
  3. If we trust God, we can surrender whatever it is we worry about.
  4. Fear is at the root of much of our worry and stress.
  5. We must intentionally control our thoughts by catching those that are lies and exchanging them for truth.
  6. When we remember what God has done before and intentionally express gratitude for it, we utilize a powerful weapon against worry and stress.

With that, let’s bring on 10 of my favorite Bible verses about worry and stress!

1. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10 NIV

If we trust that God is incapable of breaking His promises and trust that He loves us, we can set fear aside because we know that no matter how our circumstances turn out, He will strengthen and help us. He will uphold us.

2. “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” -Romans 8:38-39 NLT

Nothing. Not our past sins nor those sins committed against us. Not a broken family nor a circumstance that makes our soul bleed. Nothing in this world can separate us from God’s love. He loves us. End of story.

3. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” -2 Timothy 1:7 NLT

Fear is a liar. Trade it for what God has given each of us — power, love, and self-discipline.

4. “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” -Isaiah 40:31 NLT

Trust. Believe. Know that He is God and He will make a way. Then soak in new strength.

5. “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” -Matthew 6:27 NIV

Truth! That’s all I’ve got! Worry adds nothing.

6. “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” -Psalm 94:19 NIV

These words … this story … was not added to the Bible by chance. Nothing is. But it was added because God knew that even today, thousands of years later, we would still struggle with worry and stress – with anxiety.

7. “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” -Matthew 11:28-30 NLT

The schedules, to-do lists, financial struggles, family, home, and all the rest — let’s take His yoke, let Him teach us, and give us rest.

8. “Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.” -Psalm 125:1 ESV

Those waves won’t knock us over. The stress will not consume us. Trust in the Lord and we will not be shaken. We will abide forever.

9.“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” -Isaiah 26:3 ESV

Day after intentional day, we must keep the Lord as our focus. We must keep Him as our cornerstone and trust in Him. He will bring not only peace — but perfect peace!

10. “The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.” -Psalm 34:17 NLT

God hears us. He wants to hear from us. He will rescue us from our problems. His Word doesn’t say that He will take the trouble away, but He will rescue us. That means He will comfort us and give us what we need to make it through the trouble.

A Prayer for Worry and Stress

A prayer for worry and stress and 10 Bible Verses to put your mind at ease! #printableprayer #hope #peace Share on X

Scripture and prayer go hand-in-hand. When we soak in the Word of God, our next response is to pray those Words in our heartfelt conversations with the Lord. I am grateful God gave us the Bible to know Him and understand our faith. There is power in praying scripture. We know we are within His will when we do so. There is a unique power in it.

A Prayer to Ease Your Heart From Worry and Stress

Dear Jesus,

You created the sun, the moon, and the stars. With your artistic hand, You designed sunsets that take my breath away and sunrises that give me hope. And yet I struggle to surrender my worry and stress into Your very capable and loving hands. I struggle to trust the only One worthy.

But I want to live the way You would have me live, Father. I want to surrender. You are incapable of breaking Your promises — Your love is unfailing. I long to pour out my soul to You and surrender not only the stress of my everyday to-do lists, but all that burdens my soul and stops me from living fully free.

Today, I choose to keep my mind on You and find peace. I know with You, Father, I cannot be moved and I can find the rest I so desperately need.

Instead of anxiety, Lord, I seek Your joy! And, Lord, I know You will give me wings to fly like eagles as You lift me up. You will stay by my side forever. Thank You, Jesus, for Your love. Your faithfulness. And for being the Rock whom I can always trust.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

I Am so Thankful Surrendered Hearts Is Making a Difference

Sharing a message of hope through surrendering has been an honor. Our decision to adopt was simply out of obedience to what God had placed on our hearts. The me back then had no idea of all God would do through that decision.

Looking back gives me this super emotional feeling, insufficiently, I can only describe it as awe. Most of the time, I only knew the next right step to take. And often, I didn’t even know that it was necessarily right — it was merely the only next step to take.

Now, I get to see how each step joined with the next to create an intricate map branching out in a multitude of directions—a map where not only our daughter but our family have walked paths to redemption and renewal.

But a map that leads to the inspiration of thousands along this road.

Of the many with whom I have spoken and have read our story through the book and this blog, each has taken their steps toward living surrendered. To find peace. To find purpose in this complicated life.

God is reaching us all with His message of the power of living surrendered to Him. Together, we are discovering the peace that comes when we walk in God’s will and trust wherever He takes us.

I’d love nothing more than to look back in one, five, or ten years and feel those same emotions 10-fold. So, if you haven’t read the book yet, I’d love for you to do so … then pass it along. If you have an event where you’d like me to share the message of Living Surrendered, I’d love to do so!

  1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas on praying through worry! I’m always worrying about my new blog https://sharinglifeandlove.com/ and whether I’m doing what God has called me to do or not. I know that worrying just causes anxiety and we are to be anxious about nothing, but it’s really hard!!! I would have never imagined how hard it is just to trust God to do His part! I’m still working on it all!! 🙂 Aren’t we all works in progress?? Love it! Michele

    1. Hi Michele,

You are not alone! I think all of us who have followed God’s call to write find ourselves either worrying, comparing, or fearing that we are not in His will. There are so many things that can trigger it. From the number of people we reach to whether or not there is consistent growth, to if our blog is aesthetically appealing … it finds its way into our thought life. I will stop by your blog today to encourage you and want you to know I am praying God uses you as a powerful conduit of His love, hope, and wisdom.

      Blessings to you,
      Lori

It’s all so new to me, even though I am a writer. I appreciate you thinking of me and praying on my behalf. I could use it! 🙂
        All My Love,
        Michele
