Mom, You Are My Hero
Mom, You Are My Hero
Mother’s Day. A day to honor Mamas everywhere. A day of celebration, but a day that is painful for many. I do not take for granted the blessing I have been given. I have a Mama to treasure. One that knows how to love deeply. Today is a day to honor her and all Mamas that love their babies fiercely.
My hero …
She is the picture of tenacious love.
She never gives up.
Never even seems to wear out.
She has faced the deepest depths of tragedy throughout her life, but time and again she chooses to rise up, love with all her heart, hold nothing back, search for the moments of joy, and keep smiling.
I remember being just a little girl and finding old pictures of my mom. I was convinced she MUST have been a movie star! For sure, her outward beauty was and is real and breathtaking, but what shines from within is so much more than just beauty. Her spirit – her love. It is unequivocal.
When life left her battered, she set bitterness aside and chose to rise again and love.
When God blessed her with treasures and made her a Mommy, she never once defaulted in the job she had been given. With heart wide open and sacrifices unlimited. She loved.
When once again beaten by the greatest of tragedy, she did not stay down. She cried, she grieved, and fought her way back up again to love once again with all her heart.
As we all grew and strayed down some paths that left her aching, she never wavered. She never faltered. She always forgave.
And she chose to love.
Time continues to pass and now she is not only Mom, but Grandma and even Great-Grandma. And of course, she continue to love with all her heart.
We are all so human and so often
caught in our individual worlds. We are forced to care for our own which makes us leave her side. But never is the door closed. Never are her arms unopened. And never has heart stopped loving. My mom’s story is one that we usually only find in books. The kinds of trials and tragedies she has walked through have turned many away from faith. Away from relationship. Away from joy. And away from love.
But not my mom
She taught us all Who Jesus was and she has modeled His kind of love every day of her life. She stood strong on solid ground and never lost sight of the good … of the blessings in her life. She searched for every bit of joy so that in spite of hardship, a smile could be found on her face and a never-failing-I’ve-always-got-your-back kind of love shared with all of us.
Mom taught me how to love. How to sacrifice. And how to forgive. She showed me the power of a Mother’s love. And she taught me how to be relentless in the face of the yuck of this world.
Thank you, Mom. You are my hero and I love you!

Blessings and smiles,

What beautiful honor to your mother. I had mine with me until she was one month away from 99. I was so very blessed, even in those latter years when caregiving became a job I had not anticipated. The best part was the love I had been given by her turned back around to her in an even bigger way!
This was a sweet reminder of the way I loved and still love my Mama.
Hi Linda,
I’m so thankful this brought some beautiful memories to your heart today! I pray I can have my Mom with me until that very age or older! 🙂 What a blessing you must have been in her life in those final years. Thank you so much for visiting today!!
