No More Shame; You Are Chosen and Worthy
They are unwelcome yet nevertheless self-inviting. Ignoring them often feels impossible because of the extended baggage and host of friends they schlep along. And because they lack both in compassion and manners, the host is left exhausted, overwhelmed, and defeated.
Those unwelcome guests are too often the thoughts making up our thought-life. Thoughts that stay within us staking claim to our souls and labeling them with shame. They push incessantly upon the doors of our minds until, in a moment of overwhelm, we open the doors and let them in.[bctt tweet=”Are your thoughts often unwelcome guests leaving you exhausted, overwhelmed, and labeled in shame? #chosenandworthy #hope” username=”lori_schumaker”]
One after the other. Walking through the corridors of our minds. Wreaking havoc on our hearts. And devastating the truth of our identity.
It’s thoughts that say things like,
What ARE you thinking? You? Don’t be silly!
You aren’t nearly as capable as the others.
Why should anyone listen to what you have to say?
Look at your failures.
Your marriage failed.
Your kids are upset.
You weren’t enough to make it work.
After all, who can you please?
You are a disappointment.
Disliked and unloved.
You are unworthy.
We valiantly try blocking the blows. Looking the other way and finding distraction a momentary reprieve. Maybe if we fill our lives with mile long to-do lists, we can drown out the noise. Then facing the thoughts of condemnation and shame wouldn’t be necessary.
Only somehow the thoughts always seem to get louder than any distraction we create.
And the enemy knows it.
As he celebrates with hands held high. Thumping his chest and shouting loudly. Calling it his win.
Only friends, the noise, the distraction, and the perceived “win” are deception masquerading a truth he doesn’t want us to claim.
You see, if you are a follower of Jesus Christ, the enemy has not won. He never will. He can thump and cheer all he wants. But he is nothing in comparison to Jesus. Let me repeat that.
He is NOTHING in comparison to Jesus!
Unfortunately, there was a time in my life when I didn’t claim that truth. Fear and shame were my uninvited guests. I didn’t recognize the enemy nor did I know about spiritual warfare. I’d accepted a lie condemning me as forever “not enough”.
As a result, shame decorated the interior of my soul. It directed my life choices and wrote defeat all over my heart. Read more here …
Would you follow me over to iBelieve as I share the rest of my journey in learning to trade each and every self-defeating-shame-soaked thought for words of Truth? Friends, if you need to change the internal dialogue going through your mind, these 4 things will equip you to do just that. I pray where God has lead me, will in turn, encourage you.
But Before You Go, I Want to Tell You About Something …
Through my newsletters and on my social media channels, I asked you where it was that you needed encouragement. Although I received a variety of answers, the majority craved more encouragement in the embracing of their identity in Christ. It seems that our agenda driven world has lead us down the path of “not enough”. It effects every aspect of our lives. From our relationships to our work to our free time. We define ourselves by the reflections of our personal accomplishments, by the opinions others may have about us, or by our past mistakes. We’ve lost sight of our reflection in Christ. Who He made us to be.
And it ushers in things like shame, comparison, perfectionism, guilt, depression, hopelessness, fear, anxiety, confusion, and doubt.
Thus, a new series of sorts was birthed in my heart.
Through encouraging and equipping women to escape a broken identity, #ChosenandWorthy is an offering of hope. It’s an opportunity to recognize, embrace, and walk victoriously with an identity firmly rooted in Christ – the one true identity. The identity as a priceless and treasured child of the One True King. As His chosen and worthy child.
#ChosenandWorthy isn’t just a series, though. I’d call it more of a ongoing message. I’m not sure when exactly it will end. I guess when God leads in that direction! But for now, I’m excited and impassioned to share hope with you! Hope to live life
Whole, free, and VICTORIOUS.
I’d love for you to use the hashtag #ChosenandWorthy whenever you share either something from here or something else that encourages us to live life as a #ChosenandWorthy child of God. And if you know of someone who could use this encouragement and equipping, would you connect her with us here? I’m excited to see what God will do as He breaks chains and heals brokenness. How about you?

“He is NOTHING in comparison to Jesus!”
Great words of hope today!
I’m looking forward to this series, Lori. I still struggle with those lies that Satan pummels at me so relentlessly, and sometimes I get so weary. He knows exactly where my weaknesses are. I have to continually remind myself of the Truth of my identity in Christ. As you say – “He is NOTHING in comparison to Jesus!” Thank you for this encouragement, my friend. Have a blessed weekend!
Trudy, the enemy knows you are a force of encouragement with words that point to our Healer and Redeemer. You are right … he does know your where your weakness lies. And he also knows that where your weakness lies is also where Christ is strong!
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” -2 Corinthians 12:9.
I am coming alongside you and praying fierce prayers for you and against the enemy. I am praying for your identity in Christ to rise up boldly and for the enemy’s spirit of unworthiness to be bound and rebuked in the name of Jesus!
Love you, sweet friend ♥ And thank you for joining me here to share your powerful words of hope!
